My career is TeachingIt was an April morning in 2013 when I hung up my pointe shoes in CCM's locker room one final time. On my way out, I knew I had left a part of my soul behind. But, I also knew I would be able to branch out and explore another one of my passions in greater depth, which is education.
Personally, I love learning new skills, meeting new people, trying new food, reading new books, and experiencing different cultures. But having the opportunity to help educate someone else about one or all of those things is one aspect that is arguably even more valuable than self educating. Currently as a fourth year middle school major with a focus in mathematics and science at UC's College of Education, I am in the classroom twice a week actively planting seeds of inspiring ideas, thoughts, and concepts in children's minds that will one day blossom into the (hopefully) beautiful future of our city, state, country, and world. |
This time next year, I will be teaching my very own classroom, and can't wait to see what kind of positive contributions my students can make to the community! With that in mind, pretty much every current teacher I've talked to has told me that all new teachers start out believing they can change the world, and quickly learn that it is an insurmountable dream. I must admit, changing the world and working with children is what appealed to me the most about teaching. Now entering my last year in college, I do realize that I am only one snowflake in an avalanche. But, I also know that it only takes one snowflake to start a snowball that could ultimately be unstoppable. Read more. |
